Lindsay's Flower Farm Palmyra Senior Photography

A sunset evening in a beautiful sunflower field for senior pictures equals perfection!

Lindsay is a Palmyra High School senior. Last year, I had the joy of photographing her sister for her senior photos and in May we did a mini-session at the Hotel Hershey. We started to plan tonight's session in the spring and discussed all the fun details to help determine the best location. We are lucky to have many great options in the Central PA area for those beautiful flower images. The final decision was Royal Oaks Farm because of the rows and rows of beautiful flowers and a field of sunflowers!

We were very excited to learn that the sunflowers would be in perfect bloom for her session. As you probably already know, sunflowers are known for their bright, cheerful appearance and their ability to follow the sun. They symbolize growth, positivity, and reaching for the light making them a perfect metaphor for a senior's journey. The large open field provided a stunning, natural canvas to complement Lindsay's style. You can see some of the BTS on Instagram!

Here are some of the details we discussed as we prepared for Lindsay's session:

1. Planning date and time of day:

She knew what color of flowers she wanted for her session and that helped us decide on the time of year. She was excited about a variety of flowers, some purple flowers, and sunflowers. Sunflowers typically bloom in late summer to early fall, so August was perfect. We started the session 2 hours before sunset to have that beautiful "golden hour" photo which enhances the natural beauty of Lindsay and the flowers.

2. What to Wear:

MVP senior clients receive a welcome guide that assists with planning their outfits for a session, as well as being available as questions arise. We had a final consultation call the week before her session to confirm the outfit, shoes, and accessories, and wrap up all those fun details. We kept in mind that when shooting in a flower and/or sunflower field, to consider colors that either complement or contrast with the bright yellow blooms of the sunflowers. Lindsay chose three outfits for the evening.

3. Posing

Lindsay wanted natural poses and the options are endless with a sunflower field and/or any flower field. We posed among the flowers (trying to avoid the bees) for that magical/dreamy effect. And then we got some candid images walking through the paths in the fields.
